RAIN UNTIL MIDWEEK FOR SOME PLACES

December 5, 2011

After a wet weekend in many places, another weather system is expected to bring further bursts of heavy rain to some places during Tuesday and early Wednesday.

Thundery showers are likely inland during the afternoon, commented MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist, Daniel Corbett. These are being triggered by a warm and moist northerly flow.

Corbett went on to say, The low pressure system in the Tasman Sea is likely to move across New Zealand on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing a bout of rain, especially from the south of the North Island down to Canterbury, with some localised heavy falls. During the second half of the week, an anticyclone is expected to bring sunny and dry weather to the South Island and a weak easterly flow to the North Island.
