A MOSTLY SETTLED WAITANGI HOLIDAY WEEKEND

January 31, 2012

Weather over Waitangi holiday weekend looks like being mostly settled.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented “Weather-wise, this summer has been quite up and down in many places, so it will be a nice coincidence to have a fine spell occurring over a long weekend.”

Westerlies over the country are expected to die out during Wednesday, and an anticyclone is likely to dominate the weather from Friday to Monday. For most places, this implies mild to warm conditions and fairly light winds. Eastern coasts, however, may be cloudy from time to time, and some rain is possible in the far north and far south of the country.

For those enjoying the Hertz International Sevens tournament in Wellington, conditions should be fine with some cloud on Friday and sunny skies on Saturday. Temperatures should reach the low twenties late afternoon, dipping into the high teens by the end of the festivities.
