A winter high this week

July 10, 2012

This week sees a large high dominate the weather across New Zealand, bringing mostly dry and settled conditions.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, “Although it’s mid-winter, the settled weather expected for much of this week makes it possible to get outdoors – which is always a bonus in school holidays. Just be sure to wrap up warm.”

As with every anticyclone, skies may not be completely cloud free – but little rain is expected until late in the week. “From about Thursday, strengthening northwesterlies over the South Island should bring rain to the West Coast. We’re expecting Friday to be a windy day on the east coast of the South Island and around central New Zealand,” said Corbett.

“There is an upside to the strengthening northwesterlies,” Corbett went on to say. “Daytime highs in eastern areas should reach the mid-teens on Thursday or Friday.”
