More rain in the forecast delays next settled spell

August 17, 2012

After the brief clearance we’re currently enjoying, another low is expected to develop in the Tasman Sea bringing a bout of rain to northern and western parts of New Zealand from Sunday.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, “This weather system should bring some heavy bursts of rain, but hopefully will not hang around like some of the previous Tasman lows.”

The blocking that has caused recent weather systems to linger for days on end is weakening. As a result, the low should move across the South Island during Monday, followed by showers and fine spells.

By the middle of next week, the next anticyclone may give the country a better chance of some settled weather.
