Remaining mostly dry

February 27, 2013

The big anticyclone that has occupied the New Zealand area for the past several days should weaken somewhat over the next day or so.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented,”As the high weakens, a subtropical low is expected to pass across the seas to the east of the North Island during Friday and Saturday. This will bring some light rain to Gisborne and northern Hawkes Bay, but not a lot.”

Beyond the weekend, it seems likely that another anticyclone will move into the New Zealand area, maintaining generally dry conditions for at least the early part of next week. “Unfortunately, decent rain is not yet on the horizon,” Corbett went on to say.
