Easter Weather

March 28, 2013

Heading into the long weekend, the weather across New Zealand is once again dominated by high pressure. This is good news for holidaymakers but likely to be a disappointment to many of those hoping for rain.

“Like over much of the summer, this week has seen a large anticyclone move onto the country bringing dry, settled weather,” MetService forecaster John Law said. “Although the high will influence the weather in most places during Easter Weekend, several fronts are expected to bring rain to the South Island West Coast from later on Friday through to Monday.”

The remainder of the country is likely to see little or no rain over the next few days, however, persistent easterlies about the upper North Island will be accompanied by cloud and some showers. “Temperatures are expected to remain warm over Easter, with daytime highs in eastern places, and over the north of the North Island, reaching the mid-twenties,” Law said. “Remember to be sun-smart and water-safe.”

As always, the forecast room will be staffed 24 hours a day throughout the Easter holiday so keep up to date with the latest forecasts and any watches/warnings at or on mobile devices at You can also follow our updates on MetService TV, @metservice on Twitter and at
