A good looking day for Mother’s Day

May 10, 2013

The active low and a noticeably cooler southerly change will loosen their grip across New Zealand as high pressure and more settled weather move in this weekend.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, “This weekend will see a rapidly improving picture with a lot of fine, sunny and dry weather about for Mother’s Day.”

The first part of the weekend still could feature a few showers across eastern parts of the North Island, especially Gisborne and the far north of Northland. These will slowly ease away during the day.

As the centre of the anticyclone moves closer to New Zealand, the clearer skies and light winds will be a perfect recipe for some good overnight frosts, especially across inland locations in the South Island.

At this point it looks like the settled spell will last into the early part of next week.
