Decent weekend but a wet spell next week

July 19, 2013

A lingering anticyclone will help bring a mostly dry weekend for much of the country, but a spell of wet weather is likely in the second week of the school holidays.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, ” The weekend will be great for outdoor plans with a lot of dry weather around. Enjoy it while you can before the rain appears in the coming week”.

Around the anticyclone a westerly flow will feed in cloudy spells and a bit of damp weather to some western coasts this weekend, especially the South Island. Also, the milder flow will help to push afternoon highs into the mid-to-upper teens in some eastern locations.

A slow-moving low in the Tasman Sea will bring a spell of wet weather to the South Island’s west coast by Monday which will spread further north and east by midweek.

Later next week, there are signs the weather will become drier and more settled.
