A quiet weekend; some rain next week

October 4, 2013

This weekend will be reasonably quiet on the weather front as a ridge of high pressure covers the North Island and couple of fronts further south remain fairly weak.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, “This weekend should be ok for outdoor activities, but bear in mind there could be a lot of nuisance cloud around and some damp weather especially in the west of the South Island.”

A slow-moving front will bring some rain at times to the west coast of the South Island and perhaps a strengthening northwesterly wind in the far south by Sunday. Elsewhere, there will be a fair bit of cloud which could provide some spots of drizzle to western areas, particularly in the mornings. The far north and east will be the driest and brightest during the weekend.

Early next week a new weather system will move in from the Tasman Sea to bring wet weather to most of the country by midweek.
