Increasing cloud and rain looming for the weekend

November 21, 2013

The large anticyclone is now pulling away from the country and opening the way for some weak weather systems to move in over the weekend.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist commented, “People living in Auckland and the northern parts of the country will certainly have to factor in some wet weather into their weekend plans”

A slow moving weather system will spread outbreaks of rain over the northern half of the North Island on Saturday. Further south, there is still likely to be some decent dry and fine weather. However, an onshore flow might make for a cloudy and possibly drizzly start along the east coast of the South Island and it will feel cooler compared to recent warm days.

On Sunday, showers are more likely to spread to the rest of the North Island, especially during the afternoon and evening, with even a few thunderstorms possible in places.

In the first half of next week, a new low should develop in the Tasman Sea and move towards the north of the country, with the risk of some more wet weather for much of the country.
