Wet weather to come

November 25, 2013

The recent fine and sunny weather is coming to an end as a new low brings periods of rain across much of the country this week.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, “A broad and complex low will sit just to the west of the country over the next several days with bands of cloud and rain spinning around the main centre like spokes around a bicycle wheel.”

Rain is expected to affect most of the country from late Monday through Tuesday and Wednesday and it may be heavy at times, so a Severe Weather Watch has been issued for much of the North Island and the upper South Island. A moist northerly feed ahead of the weather system also brings the risk of some thunderstorms and downpours over the North Island. It will also feel warm and humid in places over the next several days.

The finer details of the forecast for the end of the week are proving indefinable at this stage but the trend is for the weather to become slightly drier with still some showers about.
