A big fat high keeps it fine and dry for now

March 27, 2014

A large and slow moving high will remain over the country this weekend helping to bring mostly fine and settled weather for much of the country.

MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, “the big fat high will bring ideal conditions for outdoor plans, the high acts as a big mountain of air, keeping any potential rainmakers for drier parts of the country, at bay for now.”

The large high will come with the typical niggles of morning cloud in some places especially around some coastal areas along with the odd spot of early drizzle.

After the clearance of any early cloud the mercury should climb well into the upper teens to low 20s over much of the country. The next chance for rain is early next week, and is expected to remain confined to western and southern parts of the South Island. Unfortunately, no relief is in sight in the short-term for pastures further north.
