HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON SATURDAY MORNING DUE TO SNOW OR FREEZING RAIN IN INLAND SOUTHLAND, OTAGO AND CANTERBURY

A front is expected to move east across the South Island overnight Friday and Saturday morning, bringing some light snow, or possibly freezing rain to some inland areas. There is a risk that snow or freezing rain may cause very icy and hazardous driving conditions during this period. These conditions are expected in inland parts of Southland, Otago and Canterbury south of about Arthurs Pass. Drivers in these areas are advised to exercise extreme caution on Saturday morning.

The next Special Weather Advisory will be issued by 09:00pm Friday 07-Jul-2017

Road Snowfall Warnings

Some snow is expected Saturday morning. From 9am to noon, 1 to 3cm of snow may settle on the road above about 700 metres. Note that freezing rain is also possible, even below 700 metres and driving conditions may be very hazardous.
